PhD Program for Licensed Doctors
Background
The Royal College
of Physicians & Surgeons has a tradition of excellence ever since it's
inception in England about
300 years ago. There are sister colleges in Ireland, Canada,
Australia, South Africa, Thailand, and the United States; but none of
these colleges are affiliated with each other. Physicians admitted
as members and Fellows of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons are
being recognized for advanced education, excellence in practice,
continuing scientific research, publications in the medical literature,
and reputations within their communities as accomplished healers.
Fellowship is the highest award within the various colleges. The
Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of the United States has
developed a unique program of MS PhD degrees for practicing health care
professionals who already hold a doctorate degree (or the equivalent, such
as MBBS or MB and are currently licensed to practice health care in one of
the United States or in their country of residence).
Doctorate degrees in
clinical research are not available at universities in the United States,
but in Europe it is possible for an MD to earn a Doctor of Chirurgie
degree for surgical research or a Doctor of Science for medical research.
To earn an MD PhD degree at a medical school in the United States,
students have to enter a 7 year program and work in a laboratory on basic
science as well as finish medical school. Most of the MD PhD
graduates teach at a medical school rather than enter private practice.
The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of the United States (RCP&S
US) has assembled an administration and a faculty to conduct a program of
MS PhD degrees for practicing health care professionals who already hold a
doctorate degree (or the equivalent, such as MBBS or MB and are currently
licensed to practice health care in one of the United States or in their
country or residence).
The American International University (AIU) is
incorporated as an educational entity in the United States and a licensee
of American University. Partnership with the Royal College of Physicians &
Surgeons of the United States
www.rcpsus.com enables distance learning on the INTERNET,
Continuing Medical Education conferencing, annual scientific meetings,
video tape instruction, textbooks, journals, and newsletters. Fellowship
and Primary Boards in various medical and surgical specialties have been
offered by the RCPS(US) for over 20 years. The new partnership, RCPS-AIU,
LLC, is launching its educational program with M.S. and Ph.D. programs
(D.Sc. optional) in clinical research for licensed health care
practitioners. Other practicing professionals with B.S. or B.A. degrees
will be offered instruction leading to advanced degrees (such as M.M.S. or
M.Ch.) in their specialties. Partial credit will be given for all prior
research and publications in scientific journals. There is no residence
requirement and no need to leave practice.
There is no residency requirement to take courses at this
university. No candidate will be required to leave practice for any
period of time. Teaching and tutoring are primarily available on the
INTERNET. To find out more about this NEW educational opportunity,
please click here to
access the RCPS-American International University, LLC website.
The Royal College of
Physicians and Surgeons of the United States is the leading educational
entity offering doctoral and post-doctoral training worldwide for health
care professionals. Professors teaching the courses are recognized
experts in the subject matter being taught. Tutors of candidates for
the MS and PhD degrees have excellent bibliography of publications in
medical journals, textbooks and experience in post-doctoral training and
research. Each tutor will guide 10 candidates through the thesis
process from proposal to execution to referencing to proper writing and to
preparation for the defense committee and publication. Members of
the PhD defense committee will be deans, professors, and tutors on the
faculty of the RCP&S US and the university.
Candidates for the MS
PhD program must be licensed doctors of a healing art including, but are
not limited to, Doctors of Medicine, Bachelor of Medicine, Doctor of
Osteopathy, Doctor of Dental Science. The application form will
require copies of diplomas and licenses, as well as transcripts,
documenting all answers to questions on the application. Any fraud
or misrepresentation will be grounds for revoking the degrees granted
before or after the award of the degree.
Requirements for the PhD
degree (option for DSc) would be fulfilling a total of 60 credits.
Completing the required courses plus a year of accredited study would earn
the MS degree enroute to complete the PhD. Recognition of prior
learning is a valuable aspect of the graduate program. We shall
recognize candidates with wealth of work and academic experience,
scholarship, independent study and prior post-graduate experience.
The program will be
tailored to individual background, carefully planned and guided by
assigned faculty who will help students discover their intellectual and
scientific strength, through appropriate teaching methodology, resources
and assessment of a planned program.
Details, tuition fees, the initial faculties, and
application forms for individual programs are currently listed at our
WEBSITE www.rcpsaiu.com. Interested students may FAX/call
